Poland is the first country where the international public campaign “Yes to Wind Power” launches. Activities will begin in March and cover countries such as France, Italy, and Romania. The campaign will primarily run online and on social media, guided by the character Energetyczny Hipster. Its goal is to educate and inform the public about the positive impact of wind energy on our daily lives. The campaign is coordinated by the Polish Wind Energy Association.

Got a beard and buying veggies from the local store? Time to level up your awareness – say YES to wind! – this call to action comes from the campaign’s hero, Energetyczny Hipster. The main pillar of the campaign is the international, interactive platform Yes to Wind Power – in Polish: takdlawiatru.pl, through which anyone interested can access comprehensive information about the benefits of wind energy. Users aspiring to be “energy hipsters” can also share thoughts via posts or video recordings with other platform users.

Campaign debuted in Spain

The initiative premiered last year in Spain, reaching over 2 million people.

Tax revenues and Poland’s position in Europe

Yes to Wind Power – international campaign on wind energy

Tax revenues for the government and local authorities from wind farms with an installed capacity of 5300 MW amount to approximately EUR 142 million annually (USD 157 million). The budget of a typical municipality hosting a wind farm increases by EUR 252,000 (USD 280,000) each year. Data from the European Wind Energy Association shows that in 2015, Poland ranked second in Europe, just after Germany, in terms of growth in installed wind power capacity.

Wind cheaper than fossil fuels

Renewable energy sources, as their name implies, cannot be depleted. They offer cheaper and directly accessible energy. Wind energy is not dependent on fossil fuel availability – it is free and inexhaustible. The cost of electricity generated by wind turbines, unlike traditional sources, will decrease. In the future, thanks to a significant share of wind energy in electricity production, Poland could become more energy independent, especially from fossil fuel imports.

Summary

Poland is the first country to launch the international public campaign “Yes to Wind Power” in March, which will also cover France, Italy, and Romania. The campaign is coordinated by the Polish Wind Energy Association, and its face is Energetyczny Hipster. The main tool is the interactive platform takdlawiatru.pl, where users share posts and video recordings.

The initiative debuted last year in Spain, reaching over 2 million people.
