TLS

Transport Layer Security

A cryptographic protocol that secures network communication. It provides encryption, data integrity, and server authentication; it is the technology used by HTTPS and secure variants of email services.

Why it matters

Encrypts the connection between the browser and the server. Without the lock icon in the browser's address bar, the site is marked as unsafe, and forms lose credibility.

What's missing without it

Without TLS, form data (including passwords) travels over the network in plain text, and Google lowers the site's ranking in search results.

When it is used

Always — for every website, API, and email server connection.

How we use it

The TLS certificate encrypts traffic between the user's browser and the CMS domain.
