Malware

malicious software

A general term for code uploaded without the owner’s knowledge, designed to benefit someone else: stealing data, publishing spam, adding a server to an attacking network, or encrypting files for ransom.

Why it matters

Malware rarely announces its presence. More often, it performs actions that look like normal activity — publishing content, sending emails, responding to requests — and goes unnoticed for months.

What's missing without it

Without regular file and account reviews, an infected service works for someone else: selling links, spreading spam, and reputational damage to the domain only becomes apparent when search engines penalize it.

When it is used

During every website audit, after unusual account activity, or following a sudden spike in the number of publications.

How we use it

On mediarun.com, malware disguised itself as the 'advanced-code-manager' plugin — a directory with filenames resembling a legitimate tool, containing hacker tools inside.
