SLO

Service Level Objective

An internal, measurable target for system performance quality, such as percentage availability, maximum response time, or acceptable error rate over a given period.

Why it matters

Defines what level of service quality is sufficient—for example, 99.9% successful requests per month. Gives the team a clear threshold—and a budget for errors—within which they can deploy more confidently.

What's missing without it

Without a target, every moment of downtime is equally 'bad'—the team either overcautious or doesn't know when an outage becomes a problem.

When it is used

For production services: a target is set, measured using SLI metrics, and reviewed monthly.

How we use it

The SLO assumes that 99.9% of CMS API requests will succeed within a month.
