JWT

JSON Web Token

A signed token containing encoded information about identity and permissions, commonly used in APIs or stateless sessions. It must be properly signed, have a limited validity period, and be protected against leaks.

Why it matters

Enables identity verification without querying the database on every request — the token carries signed user data and permissions. It is the standard for sessions in APIs and distributed applications.

What's missing without it

Improperly used (without expiration, with weak signature) becomes an unrevokeable key — if stolen, it remains valid until the token expires.

When it is used

In APIs and stateless authentication; anywhere sessions need to work across multiple services.

How we use it

Frontend sends JWT in the Authorization header when calling a protected CMS API.
