AcronymsAbbreviations everyone uses and few explain

AuthZ

Authorization

The process of verifying whether an authenticated entity has the right to perform a specific action on a specific resource. Answers the question: what can this user or system do?

Why it matters

Determines that a logged-in user sees only what belongs to them. Authentication answers 'who', authorization answers 'what is allowed'; without the latter, any logged-in user could do anything.

What's missing without it

Without authorization, an intern has the same capabilities as an administrator — one click could delete someone else's work or expose customer data.

When it is used

With every system request after login: editing, publishing, exporting, deleting.

How we use it

After logging in, the system checks whether an editor can publish an article, not just edit it.
