SSE

Server-Sent Events

An HTTP mechanism where the server maintains a connection and unidirectionally sends updates to the client. Useful for tracking long-running task progress, notifications, and streaming responses.

Why it matters

Enables the server to send updates without client polling: progress of long tasks or AI response streams flow to the browser via a single persistent connection.

What's missing without it

Without this mechanism, the client polls the server in a loop — hundreds of unnecessary requests, delays, and overhead that no one needs.

When it is used

Used for showing task progress, notifications, and streaming AI model responses; simpler than WebSocket when data flows in one direction.

How we use it

The dashboard shows transcription or audio generation progress live without refreshing the page.
